Risers

Risers are usually used for bigger wheels to prevent wheels from rubbing on the bottom of the board, which could abruptly stop your forward motion. Falling is not fun. If you ride a wheel bigger than 55mm, you might be a candidate for risers. Some longboards are shaped in a way that prevent wheels from hitting the board. Risers are also used to make the skater feel more comfortable atop of their board, meaning some people like a higher stance above the board, higher off the ground. This is another use of risers.
