Wheels are a very important component of your complete skateboard. The hardness usually is chosen in advance by the terrain you are going to ride the most. Skateparks allow for very hard wheels in the higher durometer range of 99 to 100 (or 84 if using the “B” scale of durometers in the case of Bones Wheels) Companies like Spitfire Wheels, Bones, OJ Wheels, Ricta Wheels and Orbs Wheels make great skatepark wheels. Longboard or Cruiser wheels are generally softer, taller and wider than skatepark wheels which allow you to ride on rougher city streets, ditches and uneven surfaces while letting you keep your speed and negotiate rough surface areas. There are many softer wheels on the market including Bones Wheels, Sector 9 Wheels, Carver Wheels and Shark Wheels. Medium durometer wheels can be used in both settings, sometimes called filmer wheels, Bones Wheels, Powell Wheels, Dogtown Wheels and other offer these types of wheels.
